Sleep Apnea Stages
Cases of sleep apnea can be classified as mild, moderate or severe based on the number of times per hour the patient stops breathing or where there is reduced airflow to the lungs. This can be measured in a sleep clinic or with an at-home sleep apnea test kit.
- Mild Sleep Apnea – 5 to 14 episodes of apnea or reduced airflow to the lungs every hour.
- Moderate Sleep Apnea – 15 to 29 episodes of apnea or reduced airflow to the lungs every hour.
- Severe Apnea – 30 or more episodes of apnea or reduced airflow to the lungs every hour.
